Well, our carnivores have won the vote (sorry, veggies!) so for our November meetup we are going to the Argentinian steakhouse, El Gaucho - by the Beestenmarkt in Leiden. October sees us back in The Hague, and as not everyone can attend on Tuesdays, I moved this one to a Wednesday. As usual, please RSVP as soon as possible if you plan to come, as I will need exact numbers to confirm our booking. I looked at a few restaurants but they were less responsive/helpful and more expensive than this one, so we're back at an Italian venue (new place though). As a lot of people are away on holidays, we thought we'd give you a second chance to join us this month! This will also be an opportunity to try a different location (Amsterdam, on the riverside) and is a weekend meetup so I hope the people who are busy during the week might be able to pop along. The venue (Wilhemina Dok) is a café/restaurant on the north bank and has been recommended by our photographer George, who has tried it out on several occasions! If the weather is good we can sit outside and enjoy a spot of people-watching in the sun. The meeting will start late afternoon and run into the evening, so if you don't want to stay all evening you can pop along just for pre-dinner drinks or simply come later for some food; we will need to book thought, so please just give us an idea in advance, so we can book enough space! Directions: Get the ferry behind Central Station to the other side (this is free) direction IJ plein- Meeuwenlaan. Take a 5 minute walk to your right, follow the water and the orange building at the waterside is Wilhelmina Dok. The last ferry returns at 23.50 pm! August sees us back in The Hague, and as Stefano actually recommended the very same restaurant I was already considering, I've decidedto give it a try (but Greek is definitely high on the list for a subsequent meetup!). Very Italian Pizza (which has Italian chefs) is close to Passage and the Buitenhof, round the corner from our old haunt Vapiano. I'm drooling at the nutella pizza already... so I hope it lives up to our high standards! As usual, please RSVP as soon as possible if you plan to come, as I will need exact numbers to confirm our booking. I will be in Italy in the first half of September, which means the September meetup will be delayed until the second half of that month. However we will hold an extra meetup towards the end of August in Amsterdam (organised by George) which means we won't have a big gap in between meetings. Also, I hope those of you who are away for one can maybe come to another! This meetup will be held on a weekend, so perhaps people who aren't free during the week will be able to attend. More details to follow soon...

hi folks, Our international tour continues this month with a visit to a Chinese Dim Sum restaurant in Den Haag. It was recommended by a colleague who lived in China - it seems to be popular with the local Chinese population - so I hope the food will be decent! It's supposed to have quite a varied menu, anyway - and although it's not very posh it's quite "goedkoop". It's located on the corner of Gedempte Burgwal (parallel to Grote Marktstraat) and Achter Raamstraat (a small side road connecting the two). If you're coming from Grote Marktstraat, look for the road between Media Markt and Irodion, the Greek restaurant. Unfortunately there's some building work going on at the moment in the street! hi folks, After requests from members to try out different venues (i.e. non-Italian ones!), I've been looking for restaurants from around the world. Our May meetup will be in restaurant M'n Broer in Leiden, in a venue tried and tested by one of our group members. I went for a European theme (Dutch/French actually) given that our last couple of meetings were African, central American and the next meeting (June in Den Haag) will be an Asian restaurant. Yes, there are some vegetarian options. As usual, please RSVP if you haven't yet so I have an accurate idea of numbers. Easter travels put a spanner in the works for our April meetup; I was going to hold it this coming week but as I've only just found a suitable venue, that seems a little short notice - so I've fixed it for Tuesday 28th April. Continuing our culinary trip around the world, this month sees us in Mexico at Popocatepetl, a restaurant in the Buitenhof, just opposite our old haunt Vapiano. We'll start at 7 for drinks, and aim to be ordering by 8pm as the kitchen apparently closes at 9.30 (although the bar is open much longer, so we can stay at our leisure). I haven't tried this one out yet, so let's hope it's good! As usual, please RSVP to let me know how many seats to reserve (and update this if your plans change).
